Midwestern Chicana Symposium: Art and Resistance in the Age of Extremism
Join us for a series of panel discussions, lectures, and conversations about how artists are using their work to challenge and resist the social constructions of racial and ethnic discrimination. The participating artists examine the manipulation of borders to serve the demands of cheap labor against the backdrop of a weaponized landscape; human rights abuses in immigrant communities; the flight from violence of peoples from throughout Central America and Mexico; and the impact of new policies on women, children, and immigrant communities. These Chicana artists create the bridges between their communities and the world and give voice to one of the most devastating crises in the 21st century. Participating artists include Norma Cantu, Demetria Martinez, Celeste DeLuna, Delilah Montoya. Keynote speaker is Austin based Chicana poet, Ire'ne Lara Silva.
